Effet des importations et Fluctuations du Taux de Change en République Démocratique du Congo

Résumé

L’objectif de cette étude est d’évaluer l’effet des importations sur l’évolution du taux de change en RDC, de 2001 à 2023. Les résultats basés sur le modèle ARDL indiquent qu'à long terme, une augmentation des importations entraîne une dépréciation significative de la monnaie nationale, soulignant ainsi une dépendance structurelle aux produits étrangers. En revanche, à court terme les importations n’ont aucun effet significatif sur le taux de change, seule l’inflation exerce une influence marquante sur le taux de change. L'absence de lien de causalité direct entre importations, inflation et taux de change suggère l’existence d’autres facteurs déterminants non pris en compte dans l’analyse.

Les conclusions de cette étude soulignent la nécessité d’une stratégie combinée de substitution des importations et de stabilité macroéconomique, notamment par la promotion de la production locale et le maintien d’une inflation maîtrisée.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to assess the effect of imports on exchange rate movements in the DRC from 2001 to 2023. The results based on the ARDL model indicate that, in the long term, an increase in imports leads to a significant depreciation of the national currency, highlighting a structural dependence on foreign products. In contrast, in the short term, imports have no significant effect on the exchange rate; only inflation has a marked influence on the exchange rate. The absence of a direct causal link between imports, inflation, and the exchange rate suggests the existence of other determining factors not taken into account in the analysis.

The conclusions of this study highlight the need for a combined strategy of import substitution and macroeconomic stability, in particular through the promotion of local production and the maintenance of controlled inflation.
